What is Through Life Discipleship?
'Through Life Discipleship' aims to encourage action and reflection around Christian discipleship as a life-long journey whilst also recognising the specific needs and challenges of individual stages and transitions of the life course.
This is specifically focused upon four key areas: a) the whole life journey; b) specific stages of the life course; c) key transition points or life-changes; d) generations and the relationships between them.
The primary aim of this project is to partner with a number of churches and organisations in the West Midlands region over 2013 to follow this theme in a fairly open ended way. This will enable us to then tell the stories of real people with lived experiences as practical examples for others to follow. However none of this is intended to provide a perfect model, the diversity of the work is paramount due to the need for this project to support local contexts and situations. Some of this involves developing discipleship study materials which meet a particular need, but in many cases the work is a more practical engagement with local communities through supporting care homes, schools and families.
Ultimately, we are hoping to encourage reflection and support action in response to many of the contemporary questions concerning ageing and the modern life course. It is our aim to see effective Christian discipleship for people of all ages and stages of life.
